Alberto Vargas "Fleur de Mal" - Full Signature Lithograph on Paper. Size: Approx. 29"x22". Unframed. Shipped rolled in a heavy cardboard mailing tube. A Vargas masterpiece, Fleur de Mal is recognized the world over. The lush setting, vibrant color and exquisite details make this one of the most highly prized titles in the artist's canon of classic pinups. Only one full signature copy without inscription is available. And this is it. Like all prints in this collection, these are printed on handmade French Rives Archival 100% Cotton Rag Paper. Original condition as gifted by the artist to his understudy. Kept in a non-smoking, temperature controlled environment. Rare Prints: The prints exclusively offered here were personally gifted from Mr. Vargas to his understudy. They are artist prints that are not part of any numbered print runs that were made available to the public. About the Artist: Alberto Vargas (1896-1983). Originator of "The American Pinup" art. Peruvian-born, Vargas studied in France and moved to New York in 1916. Vargas was "discovered" by Florenz Ziegfield in 1919, and he painted the "Ziegfield Girl" for the next 12 years, to promote the Zigfield Follies stage revues. Vargas is perhaps best known for the "Vargas Girls" series he created for Playboy magazine. Hugh Hefner was an appreciative and enduring benefactor, and commissioned over 150 Vargas Girls for the magazine for 16 years. Ships from Las Vegas, NV.
